This image was generated with the intention of capturing the poetic and tragic essence of Alfonsina Storni, the renowned Argentine poet.
I wanted to portray her final encounter with the sea, and on the first attempt, this figure emerged, wrapped in a white dress, as if embraced by the waves. Seeing a reflection of Storni in it was unexpected, almost mystical, as if her spirit had manifested in the image.
Alfonsina Storni (1892–1938) was one of the most influential poets of early 20th-century Argentina. Known for her bold, feminist voice and introspective work, her poetry often explored themes of love, gender, and existential struggle. Storni’s tragic death, when she took her own life by drowning in the sea, has been immortalized as a poignant symbol of her battle against both personal and societal constraints.
She inspired one of the most moving songs in Latin American folklore. Composed by Ariel Ramírez and Félix Luna in 1969, Alfonsina y el mar portrays her farewell with profound delicacy.
Popularized by Mercedes Sosa, the song wraps its melancholy and beauty in a timeless melody.
